Best Buy, I’m Impressed

Best Buy, I’m impressed

Some commercials leave me questioning the thought process of an ad team.  I’m sure you’ve had those “what were they thinking” moments too.  None of my favorite doozies are coming to mind right now, so if you think of any, feel free to share.

Luckily there are those times however when a company just seems to get it right.  When a commercial is actually, dare I say, effective.  Enter Best Buy.

Now, I’ll preface this by saying I’ve had some good experiences, and some not-so-good experiences with Best Buy.

With a slogan titled “You, Happier,”  Best Buy has a new ad campaign, part of their Project Holiday, showing you that they truly care, and that you can walk away from your shopping experience happier as a result of your visit.

The commercials I’ve seen recently feature different employees from various Best Buy stores describing how they added extra special creativity when helping a customer (aka someone like you).  These human-interest stories make it very hard for you not to think highly of Best Buy and not to want to go to their store in hopes that you’ll receive the same exceptional service.

Take a look at some of these commercials, and you’ll see what I mean.

At first I thought, hmmm, could they be actors?  But they’re so convincing!  Barry Judge, Best Buy’s CMO, says these are in fact real employees recounting their tales.   And it really looks like they are the real deal.

Will you interact with similar caring individuals upon your visit?   Maybe.   Yet as a bonus, according to Jane Porricelli of Momgenerations.com ,who recently talked about her experience with them,  BB hosts a site called www.askablueshirt.com where you can ask technical questions even if you didn’t purchase a product from them.

It seems the site was created to ease the stress of the holiday shopper.  Will they offer this rarely-found service year round?  I hope so. These days tons of companies (*cough* Dell) are charging you an arm and a leg for technical advice when you’ve purchased from them.  And BB offers this service for free.   I don’t know of other companies who do this –do you?

So BB, you’ve got my attention, and I really hope you continue to expand upon this campaign (including the free services!).   Even though I’m more of an online shopper, maybe I’ll come across one of your virtual humanitarians who will help me solve the world’s problems as I purchase some gadgets.

:-)

  1. I just sat here and watched every one of those videos. I must be getting a little hormonal because some made me tear up, too. Awesome ad campaign!
